Ceasefire targets the most violent gangs and individuals at high risk of shooting or being shot. They communicate through group meetings ("Call-Ins") or one-on-one ("custom notifications"). Ceasefire involves community outreach, services, support, and, if needed, law enforcement actions focused on those who continue to engage in violence

Oakland’s Department of Violence Prevention and community-based organizations offer outreach and support services. These services provide alternatives, resources, advocacy, mentoring, and life coaching, aiming to guide individuals towards positive life changes. This approach is designed to foster stronger, safer communities by empowering individuals.

Community and faith leaders are vital to Ceasefire Oakland's success. Partners like Faith In Action East Bay and the National Institution for Criminal Justice Reform offer leadership, advocacy, and resources, enhancing support for participants and ensuring mutual accountability and transparency among all partners.
Make sure you are familiar with the procedures for reporting any potentially violent situations or concerns about neighborhood conditions that may lead to violence. Contact your local police department to understand what to report, when to report it, to whom, and the appropriate reporting methods.
Think about hosting an event where people can exchange weapons or items resembling weapons for books, local store coupons, toys, or simply the satisfaction of making the community safer.
Support schools and youth clubs in their efforts to keep weapons away from children and teens. Encourage kids to report any weapons they see at or near school to staff or the police.
